First off, let me just say, this phone is pretty fresh off the presses so there isn’t that much info available on it. Still, I will review / preview the few things that are already known about this phone. The things we know for sure about it aren’t that many and who knows if they are correct or not, but they sure are enough to get your hopes up about this phone. The Optimus series has made quite the name for itself ever since it came out. And that name was earned to the most of it, since the phones in the Optimus series are quite powerful. The LG Optimus 4X HD is also quite goood since it has the HD in its name. All of the HD phones are really powerful and are a cut above the rest of the phones.
Well enough with the introductions, let us start this little review / preview.
- Processor : Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A9, ULP GeForce, Nvidia Tegra 3
- RAM : 1 GB
- AndrodOS : 2.3 Gingerbread
- Camera : 8 MP
- Display : 720 x 1280 pixels, 4.7 inches (~312 ppi pixel density)
As you can see, pretty damn powerful. Especially on the processor part. Heck, there are many PCs around that don’t have such a powerful processor.
There isn’t that much data available on how big the LG Optimus 4X HD will be. The only known fact is about its thickness : that being around 8.9 mm. Still, the phone looks massive ( one can only wonder where is one supposed to put this said phone since pockets nowadays aren’t as large as they used to be ). The LG Optimus 4X HD also has touch sensitive controls, and no such things as buttons ( you’d think the world is starting to hate them ).
On the sound part, it has vibration and MP3 ringtones as alert types, loudspeakers are present and so is the 3.5 mm jack. No more data about the sound, but there wasn’t that much to be said about it in the first place.
Moving on to the display. This phone wouldn’t be called HD if it didn’t have an HD screen. Luckily, it does have one. The screen of this LG Optimus phones is an HD-IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors. The resolution reached by this phone’s display is 720 x 1280 pixels. The screen itself is 4.7 inches big and the screen’s pixel density reaches approximately 312 ppi ( which by many people’s standards equals OVERKILL ). It also has multitouch ( as almost all Android Phones have ).
The internal storage space of the LG Optimus 4X HD reaches 16 GB and the phone has approximately 1 GB of RAM. That’s currently the most RAM available ( I don’t need to say what that gives you ). If the amount of memory given is insufficient in satisfying your spacial needs, the card slot may or may not help you, since it hasn’t yet been announced whether or not it will have one, or what format it will be ( odds are it will be a MicroSD one which will take anything up to 32 GB ).
As far as data connection goes, this phone has it ( not a mistake : I did it on purpose as a pun on that video on YouTube with : Opulence, I has it ). It has GPRS Class 12 (4+1/3+2/2+3/1+4 slots) at 32-48 KB/s. The EDGE is a Class 12 as well. The speed of the data connectivity is HSDPA ~ 21 MB/s and HSUPA ~ 5.76 MB/s. The WLAN is a Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with DLNA and Wi-Fi hotspot. The LG Optimus 4X HD also has Bluetoothe with A2DP. It also has microUSB (MHL) v2.0.
The primary camera of this phone is an 8 MP camera which can take snaps at resolutions as big as 3264 x 2448 pixels. Some of the features of the main camera include : autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, face and smile detection, touch focus and image stabilization. The main camera’s video recorder is also awesome. It can record at 1080p full HD with a steady 30 fps. A secondary is also present on the LG Optimus 4X HD. The secondary camera is of 1.3 MP power. All and all, the camera of the LG Optimus 4X HD is really powerful.
The hardware of this phone is extremely over-powered. The CPU is a Quad-Core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A9 and the chipset and GPU are part of the Nvidia Series. That being said, the chipset is a Tegra 3 and the GPU is ULP GeForce ( those are the strongest chipsets and GPUs available so far, so this phone is extremely powerful as far as hardware is concerned ).
The Operating System that this LG Optimus phone comes equipped with is Android OS v4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. I am proud to see that this phone comes out with the latest Android OS version. I can honestly say that the Ice Cream Sandwich version of the Android Operating System is the highest advancement ever made in the Operating System of Android Phones. I, for one, am extremely glad that this phone comes out with Ice Cream Sandwich ( not like the many other new phones that come out with older OS version ).
On the final part of this review / preview we will review some of the many features of the LG Optimus 4X HD. The sensors of this phone include : accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity sensors and compass ( out of which only the gyro is something special since all of the others are more common to every Android Device out there ). The messaging of this phone can be done via SMS ( threaded view ), MMS, E-Mail, Push E-Mail and IM. The browser of this phone is formed of HTML5 and Adobe Flash. The GPS of this phone also has A-GPS support. The LG Optimus 4X HD also has Java via MIDP emulator. The colors this phone comes out are only limited to black ( some people might call that “racist” ).
In the end, here is a short list of the features of this phone :
- SNS integration
- Active noise cancellation with dedicated mic
- TV-out (via MHL A/V link)
- DivX/Xvid/MP4/H.264/H.263/WMV player
- MP3/WAV/WMA/eAAC+ player
