It comes a time in the year when the people interested in a certain thing would kill to just get a chance to see it. It goes under many names and it applies to most things out there. For gamers we have E3 where they announce all the upcoming titles. But why is this related to this website ? Well, it is simple, my friend, for phones have a convention of their own – IFA.
This year’s IFA will be held in Berlin. Not only that, but IFA 2012 is just around the corner since it’s scheduled to take place between August 31 and September 5. Well, it will take place much earlier, but those are the days in which the exhibit will be publicly open for the people. What interests us more is the part before those days since that is when the most important announcements for the future of our tech will be made. Unfortunately, that part is only for the eyes of those people who work for the press.
During those days most manufacturers will be holding press-only events and the Berlin’s Messe grounds will only be open to those with a special press pass. However, since most people don’t have those rare and invaluable press passes to go see for themselves what will be said and what will come out, I will be posting a brief schedule of what is going to happen in those days.
Now we will commence with the schedule for the pre-IFA press days. Through this schedule you can also see for yourself what companies will be there and what they will try to sway us with.
Wednesday – August 29, 2012
The conferences will be held all day since 03:00 PM to 08:00 PM.
- 03:00 PM – 04:00 PM
Panasonic
They are expected to unveil a brand new Android phone at this year’s IFA. This new phone will be sort of like the Eluga and Eluga Power, and it will try and walk in the steps of those phones, as they were sort of powerful enough to handle each task without too much trouble. The Eluga and Eluga Power were announced this year as well, but in MWC back in February. Perhaps they will announce other products as well. One of the many rumors that will be put to rest this period is one about a mirrorless camera.
- 04:00 PM – 05:00 PM
Sony
They plan to unveil quite a few phones. One of those is the Sony Xperia S Refresh, a recently caught in the outside the protective wall Sony Xperia SL ( or LT26ii ), the Sony Xperia LT29i Hayabusa and the Sony Xperia LT30i “Mint”, which, according to more recent developments, will go by the name Sony Xperia T. Judging by the large number of phones Sony will e releasing, this has to be one of the more interesting conferences.
- 07:00 PM – 08:00 PM
Samsung
This one I can honestly say I’m looking forward to. Samsung, with all of its hype, has gotten a lot of people excited about announcing the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 at this IFA. The new 5.5 inch screen phone / tablet or “phoneblet”, if you will, is one of the most anticipated Android devices to come out in this second half of 2012.
Thursday – August 30, 2012
The conferences in this day will range from 11:00 AM to 05:00 PM.
- 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Samsung
While the other day they will be showing their phones or tablets or phone / tablet hybrids, this day will be reserved for their home appliances divisions. Still, the main “Unpacked Event” will be the one on Wednesday. Although, one can be looking forward to this one as well since they release really fine products.
- 01:00 PM – 02:30 PM
Lenovo
Lenovo has been quite busy lately as well and they will be even more busy come the end of the month. Just like Sony the other day, Lenovo is coming to announce a bunch of products ranging from phones to tablets and even to hybrids such as “phoneblets”. They will be starting off with the Lenovo IdeaTab A2105 hybrid. The company is also expected to showcase two more new tablets : a 7 inch screen Lenovo IdeaTab A2107 and a 9 inch screen Lenovo IdeaTab A2109.
- 03:00 PM – 05:00 AM
LG
LG has been awfully quiet about their developments this time around. Still, my thoughts are they won’t be announcing any new phones at the IFA 2012 since they’ve already released their ace in the hole, their flagship – the LG Optimus 4x HD. Even so, the IFA isn’t only for phones. LG is expected to announce quite a few nice products in their TV and Home Appliance departments. Also, they are highly likely to use the exhibition to showcase some of their already available 2012 smartphones, rather than unveil other new ones.
Well, that’s about all the information I can provide for this expo. Still, I can offer you a link as a source with which you can dig deeper and quench your thirst for knowledge.
Also, a pretty important thing to mention : the time you just saw there us measured in Berlin’s CET time zone ( to be more precise, GMT +2 during the summer ). You are only left with doing the math to find out the right hour in your time.
