Although Acer is mostly recognized for their exquisite work on tabs and laptops, they thought they could try their luck with the Smartphones as well. Not the worst of ideas ever since this phone looks like more than just a wild toss of the dice. It is actually quite powerful and looks and works like a Swedish Clock.
IT has been announced in February 2011 and was expected to come out in August. Since August is far behind us, we can only assume it will take a bit longer since it has more work put into it.
- Processor : 1GHz Scorpion processor, Qualcomm MSM8255-1 Snapdragon
- RAM : 512 MB RAM
- Android OS : 2.3 Gingerbread
- Camera : 8 mp
- Display : 480 x 1024 pixels, 4.8 inches (~236 ppi pixel density)
Down to the technical bits and pieces…
The phone is about 141.7 x 64.5 x 13.6 mm big and weighs about 185 g.
The screen is a TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors capable of a 480 x 1024 pixel resolution. The screen in itself is 4.8 inches big and has a pixel density of approximately 236 ppi.
The memory part is enough in itself to blow your mind. It has 8 GB storage
memory, 512 MB of RAM and another 512 MB of ROM. If that wasn’t enough, it also has a card slot capable of increasing its memory with microSD memory cards of up to 32 GB.
The camera is a really powerful piece of hardware. It is an 8 mp cameracapable of photographing at amazing resolutions such as 3264 x 2448 pixels and recording videos in 720p HD at a steady 30 fps. It has a secondary camera of 2 mp. It is booming with features. Among the main features we have : autofocus and LED flash. Now those are never enough, so they have decided on adding : geo-tagging, face and smile detection and image stabilization.
The processor packs quite a punch too. It is a 1GHz Scorpion processor. As if that wasn’t enough, it is accompanied by a Qualcomm MSM8255-1 Snapdragon to help increase the power of the phone in general.
The only disappointing part is the Android OS version. As I have said before on many of my articles, the 2.3 is quite out-dated now, or will be in a month or two, and it is disappointing to see phones that are still being awaited to appear coming out with such a shameful Android OS.
All and all, it will be a good prototype for Acer in this new market, in my opinion.
