I actually lived to see the day where the miniature version of a phone is almost as strong as the regular version – that’s right folks, this wonder of technology is brought to you by none other than Sony. Sony’s involvement at CES 2014 made sure to showcase and announce their latest miniature flagship – the Xperia Z1 Compact. For once in history, this miniature phone came with a specification sheet, and usually if that happens close-to-nothing ends up changing.
In many of the areas of this device, the Z1 Compact is almost identical to the regular Z1. With an incredible downsize of the phone, Sony managed to fit in the same processor, camera, memory and internal storage as with the Xperia Z1, proving once and for all that a lot of space is wasted with some of these larger devices.
Here’s a brief resume of the spec sheet in case you’re curious:

- Screen: 4.3 inch Triluminous IPS display with 1280 x 720 resolution and 341 pixels per inch density

- Software: Android v4.3 Jelly Bean ( planned upgrade to 4.4 KitKat shortly after the launch )
- Camera: 20.7 MP Carl Zeiss Optics main, 2 MP secondary, both of them record video in 1080p full HD at 30 frames per second
- Storage: 16 GB built-in storage with MicroSD card slot that uses cards of up to 64 GB.
- Networking: NFC, A-GPS with GLONASS, WLAN (2.4 / 5 GHz ) a/b/g/n/ac, MicroUSB v2.0 ( MHL ), Bluetooth v4.0 LE
- Battery: 2300 mAh
- Others: FM Radio, Accelerometer, Multi-Touch Input, Proximity Sensor
- Colors: Black, White, Pink, Lime and Yellow.
If you remember the specs of the older Z1, you can probably tell that pretty much everything made the cut, except for the resolution of the screen and a few minor other others. Due to the size of the screen, this one has a 720p resolution. The battery has also been reduced to 2300 mAh, probably also due to size. The battery does seem to be pretty balanced and so the Z1 Compact is promising a decent battery life.
This phone is expected to start hitting markets next month. The pricing hasn’t been officially confirmed, but Sony did say it’ll be somewhere between the prices of the Z1 and its Z predecessor.
