Today we’ll be taking a look at the Sony Tablet P. This is a very interesting tablet since it is the only tablet around that has this folding mechanism to it. It may be somewhat annoying to some that it will always have a black 1 inch bar in the middle of the screen, but one can live with that should one truly desire this tablet. This is also known as the Sony Tablet S2. Before starting, I’d like to point out that the Sony Tablet P is a tablet with no support for GSM voice communication, SMS and MMS, but it does have support for regular GSM networks, unlike other tablets that support no networks whatsoever.
GENERAL
Let us begin by taking a look at the more general features of the Sony Tablet P. In this part of the review you can find out some info about the supported networks of the Sony Tablet P and the announcement and release dates. The Sony Tablet P supports only 2G networks, and those are : GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800 and GSM 1900. The Sony Tablet P was announced somewhere around Q1 of 2012, although there was a lot of talk about it ever since Q3 of 2011. It hasn’t officially been released all over the world, however, it is available for purchase in most countries. It was expected somewhere around April 2012. It was released, but not for everybody, and thus we can’t classify it as a fully available tablet. Let us move on now to review the other things about the Sony Tablet P.
BODY
The review of the aspect of the Sony Tablet P is what follows. Here you can find out information about the size and weight of the device, as well as whether or not the Sony Tablet P has any distinguishable marks ( aside from the whole “book aspect” of the tablet ). The Sony Tablet P is around 180 x 158 x 14 mm big when it is fully opened and it reaches somewhere around 180 x 79 x 28 mm when it is closed. This tablet weighs somewhere around 372 grams. The Sony Tablet P has no other distinguishable marks besides the part that it’s fold-able. I suppose it should be worth mentioning that the hinges on it are quite sturdy and are relatively hard to break. The parts don’t shake or move in any way in which they weren’t supposed to. Let us move on now to the next part of the review.
DISPLAY
Here we have the review of the display of the Sony Tablet P. Here you can find out info about the type of screen ( or screens, in this case ), the screen’s size, pixel density and resolution as well as whether or not the screen has any modifications that would make it stand out from a line-up and screen protection. The Sony Tablet P has two Dual TFT capacitive touchscreens with approximately 16 million colors each. Both screens are 5.5 inches big and each one of them can house a resolution of approximately 1024 x 480 pixels. The pixel density of each of those screens reaches 206 ppi, which is pretty good in my opinion. The Sony Tablet P’s screen also supports multitouch. Sadly enough it has no protection or any other out of the ordinary particularities. This concludes the display review, let us move on.
SOUND
Next up we have a quick look into the audible output capabilities of the Sony Tablet P. Here you can find out a detail or two about the alert types, the speaker and the audio jack as well as whether or not this device has any means of sound enhancement installed on it. The alert types of the Sony Tablet P are non-existent, because a tablet with alert types would be utterly ridiculous. The Sony Tablet P also has a Loudspeaker with Stereo Speakers and a 3.5 mm jack. Sadly, the Sony Tablet P has no software based sound enhancement as far as sound is concerned, so we are to leave it at that. Let us move on now to the next part of the review.
MEMORY
Following up is the review of the memory of the Sony Tablet P. Here you can find out info about the internal storage space and ways of expanding it, as well as info about the RAM memory of the device. The Sony Tablet P comes with an internal storage space of around 4 GB. That’s not a problem since this tablet has a card slot which uses Micro SD cards and can support anything as long as it doesn’t exceed 32 GB. The Sony Tablet P also has 1 GB of RAM, which is pretty darn good considering that the maximum amount of RAM available doesn’t exceed 1 GB on mobile devices like phones or tablets. That’s enough for the memory, let us see what the future has in store.
DATA CONNECTION
Next up we have the review of the data connectivity of the Sony Tablet P. Here you can find out details about things such as the GPRS and EDGE, the Speed and WLAN as well as the Bluetooth and USB connections. The Sony Tablet P, as mentioned before, is a tablet with no GSM voice comm support, thus it has no GPRS and EDGE. Same thing goes for its internal download / upload speed which doesn’t exist. The WLAN of the Sony Tablet P is a Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with DLNA. The Sony Tablet P also has Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP on it and its USB port is a Micro USB v2.0 one. Enough about the connectivity, let us move on to the camera.
CAMERA

The main camera of the Sony Tablet P is a 5 MP snapper. This camera is able to photograph at resolutions of around 2560 x 1920 pixels. Its features include and are limited to : autofocus, touch focus, image stabilization, geo-tagging and face and smile detection. The Sony Tablet P’s main camera has a feature quite rare among 5 MP camera – it can record in 720p HD with approximately 30 frames per second. The Sony Tablet P also has a Secondary VGA frontal camera in the upper right corner, however that one isn’t all that powerful. Let us move on now.
BATTERY LIFE
Next up we have the battery of the Sony Tablet P, since we all know how stressful battery life can get with all devices. Here you can find out a bit about the type of battery of the Sony Tablet P and how long it can function. The Sony Tablet P has a Standard Li-Ion 3080 mAh battery. This battery is capable of functioning for around 120 hours in stand-by mode and up to 17 hours of continuous music play. That’s all there is to know a about the battery of the Sony Tablet P, so let us move on.
HARDWARE
The hardware part of the review is what follows. Here you can find out a thing or two about the three major components of the Sony Tablet P’s hardware : processor, motherboard and graphics card. This tablet is one of the fortunate ones, as it has all of those three components. The processor of the Sony Tablet P is a Dual-Core 1 GHz Cortex-A9. The Sony Tablet P also has a an Nvidia Tegra 2 T20 chipset, and as with all Tegras, an ULP GeForce GPU. Powerful configuration, as you can see. What more is there to say about it ? Moving on.
SOFTWARE
Next we have the software review of the Sony Tablet P. Here you can find out what version of OS is installed on the Sony Tablet P and whether or not it can be upgraded to a better one. The Sony Tablet P has a most peculiar version of the Android OS v3.2 Honeycomb since it is enhanced by Sony. It has the familiar Sony upper bar ( if you’ve ever played with a VAIO or something like that, they all have those ) and a Play Station-ish look of the menus, as well as other things. The Sony Tablet P will also receive an official update to the Android OS v4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich somewhere in the future.
