HTC Desire C

Today we’ll be reviewing the HTC Desire C. This is a fairly weak phone as far as hardware goes, however, it does have a ton of interesting features on it. You’ll see in just a minute what those features are for yourself.

Since I’m not that good with long intros, let’s cut to the chase and begin this little review.

GENERAL

We’ll start out by taking a brief look at the more general aspects of the HTC Desire C. Here you can find out a thing or two about the supported networks as well as the announcement and release dates. The HTC Desire C supports both 2G and 3G networks. Those networks are as following : GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800 and GSM 1900 ( the 2G ones ) and HSDPA 900 and HSDPA 2100 ( the 3G ones ). The HTC Desire C was announced in May 2012 and is expected to come out in the same month. If it doesn’t appear in May, you can expect to see it in stores by the end of Q2. Some phones are worth the wait, however, it’s not upon me to decide whether this one is or not. That’s enough for the generals, let’s move on.

BODY

Next up we’ll be taking a look at the HTC Desire C. Here you can find out a bit about the size and weight of the device as well as whether or not the HTC Desire C has any particularities that we should be aware of. The HTC Desire C is around 107.2 x 60.6 x 12.3 mm big and weighs somewhere around 100 grams. All and all, the phone is relatively tiny, however, despite its small figure it has a whole lot of features crammed in it, and I’m saying that in a good way. The HTC Desire C also has Touch-Sensitive Controls instead of buttons. Still, call me old fashioned, but I much rather prefer buttons since they aren’t dependent on the screen. If you have a malfunction at the screen ( god forbid ) you can rely on that old button to do the operation you wanted to do. Still, I guess I’ll have to get used to the transition pretty soon, so better to drop the subject. Let us move on.

DISPLAY

Next up we’ll be taking a look at the display of the HTC Desire C. Here you can find out a bit about the type of screen of the HTC Desire C, the screen size, the screen’s resolution and pixel density as well as whether or not the screen has any protection on it and any other particularities that we should be aware of. The screen of the HTC Desire C is a Capacitive Touchscreen ( sorry, but it isn’t specified which type ) with approximately 16 million colors. The screen is around 3.5 inches big and can house a resolution of approximately 320 x 480 pixels. The pixel density of the HTC Desire C is approximately 165 ppi. The HTC Desire C has Multitouch on it as well, however, we’re not looking at the advanced kind of Multitouch that can support more than two simultaneous fingers. The HTC Desire C also has HTC Sense UI v4.0 installed on it, should you choose to activate it. That’s enough for the display, let us move on now to the next part.

SOUND

Next up we’ll be taking a look at the sound of the HTC Desire C. Here you can find out a bit of info about the Alert Types of the device, its speaker and audio jack as well as whether or not the HTC Desire C has any sound enhancement on it whatsoever, be it software based or otherwise. The HTC Desire C has the following Alert Types : Vibration, MP3 and WAV ringtones. This phone also has a regular Loudspeaker and a 3.5 mm jack. What sets it apart from the “rabble”, if you will, is the fact that it has Beats Audio sound enhancement on it. Now correct me if I’m wrong, but Beats Audio is currently THE most expensive headset and other similar product providers around and they offer the best quality available. That’s enough said about the sound, so let us move on now.

MEMORY

Next up we’ll be examining the memory of the HTC Desire C. Here you can find out a bit of info about the RAM of the device, the internal storage space and ways of expanding it. The HTC Desire C has around 512 MB of RAM, which is half-decent by my standards and other people’s standards as well, I’m sure. The storage of the HTC Desire C is around 4 GB of internal space. Should that not be sufficient for your needs, know that the HTC Desire C has a Micro SD card slot as well which can support any Micro SD card as long as it doesn’t exceed 32 GB. But, that’s enough for the memory, so let’s move on now.

DATA CONNECTION

Next up we’ll be taking a look at the connectivity of the HTC Desire C. Here you can find out a bit of info about the GPRS and EDGE of the device, the Speed and WLAN as well as the Bluetooth, USB and other connections, should they exist. The HTC Desire C has both GPRS and EDGE, however, it isn’t specified for either one of them what Class they are and what Speed in MB/s they can reach. The Speed of the HTC Desire C can be classified in both HSDPA and HSUPA and it can reach 7.2 MB/s in HSDPA and who knows how much in HSUPA since it isn’t specified. The Bluetooth of the HTC Desire C is v4.0 one with A2DP on it. Upon purchasing this phone, you can choose to get it with NFC on it or without it. I imagine that there will be quite a bit of a price difference between the two. The USB port of the HTC Desire C is Micro USB v2.0 one. That’s enough for the connectivity of the HTC Desire C, so let us move on since there still is a bit to go till the end.

CAMERA

Next up we’ll be taking a look at the camera of the HTC Desire C. Here you can find out a bit of info about the main and secondary cameras ( should a secondary one exist ), their features and their capabilities. This phone has a 5 MP camera which can photograph at resolutions of approximately 2592 x 1944 pixels. The only features of the HTC Desire C are : autofocus and Geo-Tagging. The HTC Desire C’s main camera can also record video, however, it isn’t one of those powerful 5 MP cameras that can record in 720p HD. Or maybe it is and it just isn’t specified. I guess we’ll see for sure when it hits the market. This phone, sadly, has no secondary frontal camera, so it will be quite a disappointment for those who favor video-calls. That’s enough for the camera. Let’s move on to the next part.

BATTERY LIFE

Next we’ll be taking a look at the battery of the HTC Desire C. Here you can find out a bit about the HTC Desire C’s battery type and how long it can function. The HTC Desire C has a Standard Li-Ion 1230 mAh battery. Sadly, it isn’t specified for how long it can function. Since there isn’t much more to say here, let us move on.

HARDWARE

Next we’ll be taking a look at the hardware of the HTC Desire C. Here you can find out a bit of info about the three main hardware components of this device : processor, motherboard and graphics card. The HTC Desire C has, to my disappointment, only two of the three. Either it is lacking a GPU or it has one but it’s so weak that the processor and chipset have to take over, and thus, isn’t worth mentioning. Still, we’ll work with what we have. The processor of the HTC Desire C is a Single-Core 600 MHz processor. This processor is accompanied by a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset. There isn’t much more known aside from this, so let us move on to the next part.

SOFTWARE

Next up we’ll be taking a brief look at the software of the HTC Desire C. Here you can find out a bit of info about the OS version of the HTC Desire C and whether or not it can be upgraded to any better one. The OS version of the HTC Desire C is Android OS v4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It requires no update since this is now, and for the next few months, the best version for the Android OS. Since there isn’t anything left to say here, let’s move on to the final part of the review.

FEATURES

Finally, we’ll take a look at the features and capabilities of the HTC Desire C. The sensors of this phone are : Accelerometer and Proximity. The messaging on the HTC Desire C is done via : SMS ( with Threaded view ), MMS, E-Mail and Push Mail. The browser of this device uses HTML and has integrated support for Adobe Flash. The HTC Desire C also has a Radio with TBD and a GPS with A-GPS support. This phone also has Java via Java MIDP emulation. The HTC Desire C is available in a wide array of colors : Polar White, Stealth Black and Flamenco Red.

Here is a brief list of what the HTC Desire C can do :

  • SNS integration
  • MP4/H.263/H.264/WMV player
  • MP3/eAAC+/WMA/WAV player
  • Google Search, Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Calendar, Google Talk
  • Organizer
  • Document viewer
  • Voice memo/dial
  • Predictive text input

This concludes our little review of the HTC Desire C. If you feel that anything is lacking from this review feel free to leave your suggestions in the comment section below for things which should be added and I will be sure to take them into consideration when writing my future projects. In the meantime, I sincerely hope you had as much fun reading my little review as I had writing it.
